Educational and Experience Requirement

Bachelor’s degree in History, Art, Art History, Education, Museum Studies, or a related field. At least three years of related education experience. Supervisory experience required. Curriculum development or classroom teaching and/or previous experience as a museum educational coordinator desirable. Excellent oral and communications skills. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Responsible for the development and implementation of Museum educational programs and activities, conducts research in support of programs and exhibits. Works in close cooperation with other professional staff to accomplish Museum planning and development.

Primary Responsibilities

Provides leadership in the development, administration, and evaluation of educational and interpretive programs. Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers and docents. Develops collaborative programming initiatives with other institutions and community based organizations. Uses a variety of media and techniques such as special exhibits, printed training materials, self guides, demonstrations, and classes. Arranges tours, audio visual presentations, lectures, workshops, and special events. Manages traveling trunk program. Prepares press releases. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications

Manages budgets. Interacts with schools, city and county agencies, libraries, museums, tourism agencies, tour groups, and the general public. Word processor and general computer experience helpful as is familiarity with audio visual equipment and multi media processes. Historic clothing or costumes are a feature of Museum interpretation. Must be able to work a flexible schedule which would include evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
